Have you ever wondered why the household chore become female’s responsibility? Why is that we female are made to take the lead role when it comes to things like washing clothes, cleaning the room and other associated things? Maybe because that is how we have seen the society to work!! Even if a female is working, that too full-time, at par with the male counterpart, still society expects the female to hold on to the household works.
But, that’s changing!! And a “change for good”! I consider Ariel as one of the protagonists to change this thought process, and thus I’m grateful to them for this! Ariel has been unearthing the reality of inequality within households in India since 2015 with their award-winning campaign #ShareTheLoad. This movement addresses the inequality and the unequal expectation placed on women as compared to the male counterpart.
At my home, it has actually never been the scenario. We all family members equally distribute the workload, and there has been no undue expectation from the female members of the family to be overburdened with the household chore.
As per a statistics, it was found that 2 out of 3 men believed that laundry is a woman’s job. Moreover, it was also found that 50% of the men don’t do laundry work as they have never seen their fathers do the same. Don’t you think these are just taboos which should not be entertained? If yes, then be the part of change!
Our future generation also should be nurtured in a way that they get the essence of gender equality in every sphere of life, and need not later on hit it hard on them. Because, the sons of today are the husbands of tomorrow! At our home, we share and actually keep on rotating household tasks, which includes laundry, cooking, dusting and what not.. It has never been like the female single handed has to manage everything. But, yes, it sad to acknowledge the fact that the mentality still exists. But then I completely admire that Ariel India came up with such an amazing initiative, and I am expecting this will open the eyes of the people.
Recently I have received the #Hamperofequality box from Ariel as a part of #Sharetheload campaign and the box is very well curated with an item for every member of the house to share the laundry. This not only promotes equality, but also improves the bond!
