Namaste Doston,
I was shopping in a newly inaugurated super mart near my place, when I saw this soap. ज़िन्दगी में कुछ चीज़ें ऐसी होती हैं, जिन्हे देखते ही आप यादों की दुनिया में खो जाते हैं। This soap dragged me into my childhood memories, I was in class 1 or 2 those days. My Hindi teacher used to smell heavenly, she was so pretty and soft spoken that I still remember her. Those days in Bangalore use of sandalwood soaps or sandalwood based products (not sure about current scenario, never got chance to visit this city again) was pretty common.
I used to love the fragrance! Later on we shifted to Agra and here use of sandalwood based products is not that common. To be honest with time I forgot that heavenly fragrance of sandalwood. But today on seeing this soap, for a minute I felt my Hindi mam next to me. I was skeptical to buy it or not (I was not buying it). But finally I picked it and using it from last 15 days. In this post I will be talking about this soap. Yes! I am talking about Mysore Sandal Soap.
Price: Rs 82
Quantity: 150 gm

The government of Karnataka, a state in southern India known for its sandalwood, owns the business Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited, which makes Mysore Sandal soap. Mysore sandalwood plantations were bountiful at the turn of the century, but while Europe was engaged in the First World War, the costly wood couldn’t be transported. The Mysore Sandal soap brand is still used by the company that the Maharaja of Mysore founded in 1916 to use up the surplus sandalwood. It displays a trademarked Geographical Indication seal and contains natural sandalwood oil.
Packaging: The soap is spherical but comes in a square shape cardbaord box. The soap comes with a plastic wrap with a little sticker on it. The cardboard box have all the required information like price, quantity, ingredients, shelf life etc. Overall I am very happy with the packaging 🙂
My opinion about the product: The soap is brown in color which without any doubt represents the color of sandalwood. With its powerful perfume, Mysore Sandal soap certainly does it justice. The bar has a creamy aroma that is somewhere between lacy wood shavings and dry rose petals, and you don’t even need to tear the plastic wrap to detect it. If you want your wardrobe to smell like a maharani’s treasure chest, a single pack of soap will suffice. It lasts well in the shower and foams easily, filling the whole bathroom with the heady, intoxicating scent.
Sandalwood is regarded as cooling and cleansing in Ayurvedic medicine, and the soap is promoted as having the ability to soothe prickly heat rashes and soften the skin. I can’t vouch for the latter, but after using this soap, my dry skin feels velvety to the touch.
No doubt people may find it a bit expensive but it is worth. It doesn’t make your skin dry which is a common thing on using soap. You smell good throughout the day, I may sound little crazy but because of this soap I am reviving those school days 😉 Generally I use body wash but after using this soap my mind is changing. हाँ। अपनी हिंदी मैडम के जैसे साड़ी पहन कर स्कूल में पढ़ाने का मन भी होता है कभी कभी।
ZZM Rating: ♥♥ 4.5/5 ♥♥
