Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink (Loyalist-05)| Review & Swatch

Initially, Maybelline launched 10 shades of the Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks: Loyalist, Dreamer, Lover, Pioneer, Heroine, Romantic, Creator, Believer, Escapist and Voyager. Then, more recently, Maybelline released under the “Un-Nudes” Collection, which includes ten unexpected neutrals. The selection is great – tons of neutral options, as well as several bright pops of colour. In this post, I will be reviewing Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Loyalist-05. Packaging: I prefer clear lipstick tubes but the colour-coordinated tubes are the next best thing. The doe foot applicator is pointed, which is fantastic for precise application. High five, drugstore liquid lipsticks with great applicators!

My opinion about the product: Loyalist was part of the original SuperStay Matte Ink launch and is soft light pink nude. I think this is one of the shades that seems to look pretty different based on the person who wears it. I really went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to pick up this shade. In some of the photos I looked at, it seemed like it was a pretty white based formula, while in others it pulled more blushed with a touch of brown.

Even though this color is on the lighter end of the spectrum, the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink formula applied opaquely in a simple swipe. I have mixed feelings about this color, it works on me under certain lights, but not all.

I found that if my lips are not exfoliated, this lipstick could potentially give me that bit of a crusty lip look. In my swatch above, you can see that the inner lip does not look very flattering. I may have over applied in that area, but this does then to happen to me when I do wear this color. After a few hours those pieces do fade away, but I am still a bit weary about this shade.

Overall Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink is exactly that, a super staying matte inky lipstick! The formula is a bit thick, but the color is absolutely opaque. Once applied on the lips, the color dries and wears so comfortably. Even as hours passed, the comfort level of these lipsticks did not decrease at all. These lipsticks don’t really require touch ups, but I did try layering to see how the formula performed and found absolutely no issue.
